about

The motivation for this recording was the realization that Dan and I have a special synchronicity and that we play well in small intimate venues. We thought it would be fun o invite some friends for a private concert in a studio where we both feel at ease. Turns out it was fun! There wasn't much of a plan; we had a few songs we had decided upon but many of the numbers were chosen in the moment by one of us just starting to play. Special note: For The Love Of Song is Dan's harmony and form with my melody written afterwards. Dan showed me the structure two days before the event and while we tossed around a couple of ideas in the key of G (for my benefit), it was only after I got home that I settled on this melody. This is the first public performance and the first time Dan had seen this melody. It was also back in his original key of 'A' so, yes I chose to play in five sharps on the tenor partly because I like sharp keys but mostly because this is where Dan heard it; who am I to argue?
More Than I Can Say is composed by Dan and is dedicated to his lovely wife Mihaela. A more tender tribute I have not heard.
As for me, I dedicate this record to my partner in love and music Sheri Weldon.
The cover art was rendered by our friend, the artist Vince Mancuso. He drew it during the performance and it captures the mood rather well.
It is our hope that you can listen to this record as a whole as we performed it. Peace.
